(The book of Isaiah)
The Lord used the book of Isaiah for a multitude of
prophecies. Some are about the
Messiahship & Divinity of Jesus Christ, some about the death &
resurrection of Jesus Christ, some about the
1) Isaiah
2) Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto
us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and his name
shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, ThePrince of Peace.”
3) Isaiah 11:6 “The wolf also
shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the
calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead
them.”
4) Isaiah 40:3“The voice of
him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make
straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
5) Isaiah 40:31 “But
they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up
with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk,
and not faint.”
6) Isaiah 55:11 “So
shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me
void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the
thing whereto I sent it.”
There is, of course, the whole 53rd
chapter of Isaiah that speaks of the suffering and shame of the cross that
Jesus endured for us. In Jewish synagogues, there are scheduled readings from
their Old Testament and they usually cover the whole Bible in a year – Isaiah
53 is not included in these readings. In
the Jewish Bible, when we come to Isaiah 9:6 (above), the text is
transliterated from Hebrew. It looks
something like this: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and his name shall be called
Pele-joez-el-gibbor-abi-ad-sar-shalom”. You see, the Jews believe in a
Messiah; they just don’t believe that He is God.
