(Can a True Christian be Demon Possessed?)

What kind of a question is that, you ask?  Well, believe it or not, some people think that a born again Christian in who God has placed His Spirit can be possessed by a demon.  This is, of course, totally contrary to Scripture but let us look at some factors that these people use to promote this unscriptural belief.  1) Personal experience. “Oh it wasn’t me it was a demon of envy that made me do this  (or any other sinful act – jealousy, lust, pride..) This is just a cop out to blame someone other than self for one’s sins.   2) The wrong application of Scripture.  Some use the passage in 2 Cor 12:7-10 where Paul requests that God remove from him “… a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me”.  They use this passage to denote that Paul was demon possessed.  3) Error.  Some people just go about with their feelings and believe the lies that they promulgate. There was one time when two ladies went to see someone who was in depression in the psychiatric ward in a hospital and do you know what they told her?  They said to her “We know you have a demon but we will mummify it today and come back to exorcize it another day”.  Can you imagine how that person felt?  I suppose they were sincere but we are not saved by sincerity, we are saved by the grace of God and where in Scripture did they get that foolishness?

Let us look at what the Bible says about this subject.  Again in 2 Corinthians, chapter 6, verses : 14 – 16, the Bible tells us “…for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?”   “And what concord hath Christ with Belial?”  These two verses alone should be enough, but that are many more that refute this heresy.  1 John 5:18 says “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”  We are not called to exorcize one another but to pray for one another or to share our burdens one with each other…check out study # 36.   Nowhere in the Bible did Jesus or any of the Apostles cast demons out of believers.

One day, after a revival meeting, a young man caught up in homosexuality was touched by God’s Spirit and went to see the speaker for more information.  This particular speaker while conversing with the young man for several hours discerned that he had a demon.  The speaker in question called upon the demon and the young man began convulsing and speaking awful words that were not his.  The young man was exorcized and became a true believer.  Demons are real entities and are not to be taken lightly but “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”  1 John 4:4.

So, to answer the question “Can a True Christian be Demon Possessed?”  Well, you already know the answer, don’t you? – NO!!!
